Boswellia frereana

Frankincense frereana yields the most exquisite Frankincense. The trees are endemic to the coastal mountains of Somalia and perfectly adapted to this harsh and challenging terrain. The seeds find shelter in tiny crevices that must hold enough moisture to sustain them during germination. Once they have anchored their rootlets deep within a fissure, the trees appear to sprout directly from the rocks. This is the reason Frankincense frereana is impossible to cultivate. The trees yield translucent resin deemed superior even to Omani Frankincense. Some scholars believe the that coastal mountains of Somalia were part of the lost Land of Punt. They suggest that the Frankincense trees Queen Hatshepsut brought as a gift for King Solomon was Frereana, the source of the purest and most precious incense of all. The essential oil is distilled from the resin.

The precious resin of Frankincense frereana has always been treasured as incense for religious ceremonies and as medicine. The Coptic Church uses no other type of Frankincense and considers it a symbol of Christ himself. Traditional medicine praises its superior anti-inflammatory properties for treating arthritis, osteoarthritis, rheumatism, rheumatoid arthritis, tendonitis and joint pain. It is also an excellent healing aid for wounds, inflammatory skin conditions and respiratory illnesses. Aromatherapy values Frankincense frereana above all for its calming and stress-relieving qualities. As a constituent of aromatherapy massage oils, it relieves pain and inflammation. Perfumers love its fresh fragrance as an ingredient of luxury perfumes and high-end skin-care products.

Frankincense frereana’s uplifting scent is ideal for meditation, prayer and healing ceremonies. It cleanses and sanctifies the atmosphere, centres the mind and shields against negative influences. The oil can adjust the energetic balance between the crown and base chakras, promoting spiritual alignment and inner peace.

Frankincense frereana has a unique scent - bold, citrusy, spicy, and more balsamic than other types of Frankincense. It blends well will Bergamot, Cedarwood, Cinnamon, Lavender, Lemon, Geranium, Neroli, Jasmine Sambac, and Ylang-Ylang.
