BALSAM OF TOLU

Tolu Balsam comes from the Quino-Quino tree, a native of northern parts of South America. The Spaniards first reported its uses. The Aztecs used it to mummify high-ranking officials. The thick liquid hardens into a brittle mass. It evaporates rather than burns, producing a balsamic vanilla-like lingering scent suitable for perfumes and love incense.
