YARROW BLUE ESSENTIAL OIL

Achillea millefolium

Yarrow and Blue Yarrow oil derive from the same source plant, the much-loved English Yarrow, Achillea millefolium. But how can these two oils be so different? The secret lies in the method of production. Distillation is a magical art descended from alchemy. Different techniques, temperatures and distillation times produce entirely different results! Yarrow Blue Oil owes its beautiful blue colour to a compound called chamazulene. This compound is not present in the source plant but results from slow, low-temperature steam distillation. Thanks to the chamazulene, the healing properties of Yarrow Blue oil are superior to those of standard Yarrow.

Traditional
Blue Yarrow, Blue Chamomile and Blue Tansy oil all contain chamazulene. They have many properties in common and are all valued for their anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, relaxant and tension-relieving properties. In Aromatherapy, Blue Yarrow oil is a 'go-to remedy' for conditions ranging from skin rashes and inflammation to stress-induced indigestion. It soothes and relaxes all bodily systems, laying the foundations for balancing the body, mind, and emotions to create a bedrock for well-being.

Magical
Yarrow is associated with Achilles, the warrior hero of Greek mythology. Erstwhile student of the wise old centaur, Chiron, he became a respected healer and army surgeon. Yarrow was his favourite herb, helping him to mend many battle wounds. In the Chinese Daoist tradition, Yarrow symbolises perfect equilibrium between male and female energies - it represents yin and yang in perfect harmony. Yarrow balances all chakras and polarities, bringing peace and balance to a discombobulated mind. It is associated with Venus in Libra.

Scent
Yarrow Blue oil has a soothing, herbaceous, slightly camphoraceous scent with hints of floral notes, neither sweet nor bitter, but something in between. It blends well with many other oils, including Cedarwood, Cypress, Pine, Chamomile, Lavender, and Hyssop.
